SAVE THE DATE
Choices: Stories You Play
"Some people say the most important day of one's life should be a wedding. And for me, that was true. It just wasn't my own."

Save the Date is a standalone visual novel published in Pixelberry's Choices: Stories You Play. I was the book lead for the series, which meant that I was the one responsible for making sure the creative vision was realized, and the point of contact between the writing teams in other departments. All of this was in addition, of course, to brainstorming, outlining, writing, and editing chapters along with the team.

Save the Date tells the story of young wedding planner in the big apple as she strives to make her fledgling business a success... and no a-hole best men are going to stop her! It's a romantic comedy centered on a love-hate relationship, with plenty of crazy hijinks and beautiful white dresses to keep things light.

The aspect of Save the Date that I am proudest of is the first-person narration style. While all other Choices books at the time were told in second person, usually with a fairly straightforward writing style, Save the Date is narrated in first person, with plenty of snark and humor. This brought a lot more personality and fun to the book, and gave it a modern romcom feel. I also made sure to feature a diverse lineup of clients in this book. The couples featured include ones who are interracial, elderly, previously divorced, gay and lesbian, and plus-sized. While I have always strived to have diverse casts in my games (as all Pixelberry writers do), we all agreed that it was especially important that this book be a celebration of love in all forms, for all people.

Save the Date can be played for free in the app Choices: Stories You Play, available for iOS and Android.
